The banner read: “Madrid hates Real”. A La Liga statement read: “We strongly condemn the acts of hatred directed towards Vinicius Junior. “Intolerance and violence has no place in football. “As it has done before, La Liga will press for a full investigation in search of the facts and the conviction of those responsible, requesting the most severe criminal sanctions. ”Vinicius was targeted with racist abuse the last time the two Madrid sides faced off. Footage filmed outside the stadium showed fans chanting “Vinicius is a monkey”.
With Inter losing on Monday as well, it’s all looking very rosy for Napoli. The Bundesliga is back with the highest scoring matchday of the season, and the return of Sebastian Haller after his cancer diagnosis last year. Plus Mbappe scores 5 for PSG in the Coupe De France, Ajax can’t stop drawing and Harry Winks might not be able to save Sampdoria. Have a listen here! Michael Dominski·Live ReporterJanuary 26, 2023 at 11:20 AM ESTAn unsavoury introduction to today's gameA mannequin wearing Vinicius Junior’s shirt was hung from the neck from a bridge ahead of tonight’s game between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. “Bad. Bad. Really bad, ” was the reply, delivered with a grimace. “Not just the results, but the play, the feelings. It’s not like before. ”That same downbeat and anxious tone was a feature of many conversations with over a dozen sources close to Atletico last week, each requesting anonymity to protect their positions. This may seem surprising from the outside, as Diego Simeone’s side went into the weekend fourth in La Liga, still on course to achieve their season’s target of Champions League qualification and with a Copa del Rey quarter-final against city rivals Real Madrid to come on Thursday.
Sources close to Garcia and Real have confirmed that the move is close, with the 23-year-old left-back likely to remain on loan at Rayo Vallecano until the end of the season. Real, however, will only pay €5million for Garcia as they hold a 50 per cent sell-on clause on the player, who joined Rayo from the club’s academy in the summer of 2021, having previously spent a season on loan at the Estadio de Vallecas. Real head coach Carlo Ancelotti wants Garcia but the final decision on the transfer was not made by the Italian, with the club’s board having the final say. Rayo, meanwhile, have told The Athletic they have not yet been informed of Garcia’s clause being activated.
